Premier Mark McGowan is set to provide a COVID update on the first day of Perth and Peels snap lockdown.
The four-day circuit breaker came into force at midnight, hours after a third West Australian tested positive to the highly infectious Delta strain of the coronavirus.
Authorities are waiting on tests results for thousands of contacts linked to each of the three infected with COVID-19.
They include the original case 1022 who picked up the virus from a Bondi café before passing it on to both a 32-year-old physiotherapist (case 1023) at a northern suburbs gym and a pub worker in his 30s (case 1024) at the Indian Ocean Brewery last Tuesday.
Schools, boarding schools and childcare centres in the Perth and Peel regions are open except for the three schools that have been directly impacted as they are a listed exposure site.
Mask wearing rules still apply.
Universities, TAFEs and training colleges are closed unless for critical activities.
FIFO workers have also been told to stay put, with thousands asked to stay on site for extra-long shifts to minimise movements in and out of the regions.
The Premier, Health Minister Roger Cook and Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery are scheduled to address the media at 11am, however this may be subject to delays.
