Top-scoring former Premier League striker will not be returning to the Phoenix next season.

Wellington Phoenix have confirmed the departure of last seasons top goal-scorer Tomer Hemed.
The Phoenix released a short statement on Saturday afternoon announcing that their marquee man would not be returning to the club for a second season following the expiration of Hemed’s initial one-year deal.
Despite bringing Gary Hooper back to the club following a short stint in India, the Phoenix were determined to keep the former Brighton and Hove Albion marksman following his prolific finish to the 2020-21 campaign, but negotiations to retain Hemed for another season have proven unsuccessful.
Israeli striker Tomer Hemed’s double rescued a point for Wellington Phoenix.
The former Israeli international played a vital role in the Phoenixs record-breaking finish to the season, scoring a team-high 11 goals and registering three assists in 21 appearances.
He became the first Phoenix player to score in five consecutive games when he netted in each of the final five games, helping the Phoenix amass a club record 11-game unbeaten run to close out the campaign.
Phoenix coach Ufuk Talay told Stuff earlier in the week that he was hopeful of retaining Hemed, but had already begun searching for another striker to compete with Hooper and teenager Ben Waine just in case.
He was a very influential player, especially towards the back end of the season, when we got him fitter and stronger, so Id like to keep him with Wellington Phoenix, but as you know if it doesnt work out were not sitting on our hands waiting for Tomer to make a decision, Talay said.
